  • Transforming Europe’s healthcare systems through data – The Parliament Magazine is organizing its first Thought Leader Live debate on eHealth: transforming Europe’s healthcare systems through data around the European Commission’s recent (25 April) communication on enabling the digital transformation of health and care in the Digital Single Market. Europe’s healthcare systems are struggling to move from being supply-driven to demand-driven and face considerable challenges such as changing demographics, rising costs, growing resource gaps, rising multi-morbidity and increasing patient expectations. The internet and digital technologies have changed people’s behaviors and attitudes and healthcare services, like many other sectors, have responded by adjusting the way they interact with patients and the public. The debate will address the communication’s call for action at an EU level which can accelerate the uptake of digital solutions across primarily these three areas: citizens’ secure access to and sharing of health data across borders; better data to advance research, disease prevention and personalised health and care; and, digital tools for citizen empowerment and person-centred care. The Parliament Magazine’s Thought Leader Live debate will hear from, question and debate with, some of the EU’s key digital health decision makers on how data can enable the digital transformation of Europe’s healthcare systems.
