The internet and digital technologies have changed people’s behaviors and attitudes and healthcare services, like many other sectors, have responded by adjusting the way they interact with patients and the public. The debate will address the communication’s call for action at an EU level which can accelerate the uptake of digital solutions across primarily these three areas: citizens’ secure access to and sharing of health data across borders; better data to advance research, disease prevention and personalised health and care; and, digital tools for citizen empowerment and person-centred care.
